German Train Strike Ends Early, Talks Resume
No further strikes planned until March 3 as Deutsche Bahn and the union negotiate over pay and working hours.
- The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) is ending its six-day strike early, with passenger train services resuming Monday morning at 2 a.m. (0100 GMT), and freight transport ending Sunday evening at 6 p.m. (1700 GMT).
- This strike was the fourth by the GDL in ongoing negotiations with the country's main railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, over working hours and pay.
- Both parties have resumed talks and have agreed there will be no further strikes until March 3.
- In addition to pay raises, the GDL has been demanding a reduction in working hours from 38 to 35 per week without a pay cut, a demand Deutsche Bahn has so far refused.
