German Tourist Dies After Shark Attack Near Canary Islands

The 30-year-old woman lost her leg and suffered a fatal heart attack while being airlifted to a hospital.

The attack occurred on Monday while the woman was swimming beside a British-flagged catamaran, Dalliance Chichester, about 278 nautical miles southwest of Gran Canaria.
Emergency services, including a Spanish Air Force helicopter, were dispatched but the woman died en route to the hospital in Las Palmas.
This incident marks the first fatal shark attack in the waters near the Canary Islands, which have only recorded six confirmed shark-related incidents historically.
The woman suffered a heart attack after losing her leg in the attack, leading to her death during the rescue operation.
Both Spanish and Moroccan coastguards were involved in the rescue efforts, with Spain taking the lead due to the proximity of their resources.
