German Tourism Hits Record Highs Despite Economic Challenges

German tourism has rebounded strongly, with over 433 million overnight stays recorded from January to October 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic records from 2019.
October 2024 alone saw 45.5 million overnight stays, a 2.5% increase compared to the same month last year, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
Domestic travelers accounted for the majority of overnight stays, with 38.5 million recorded in October, a 2.7% rise from the previous year.
Spending on tourism by Germans exceeded €100 billion in the past year, making them among the highest global spenders in this sector, following Americans and Chinese travelers.
Despite economic pressures such as inflation and a slowing economy, Germans continue to prioritize vacations, reflecting the enduring cultural importance of travel.
