German Top-Tier Seasons Underway as Rights Split Boosts Free Streams
Fans now face a mix of free streams and subscription-only broadcasts because of new rights deals.
Overview
- As of 25 October 2026 the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, 3. Liga and Handball-Bundesliga are playing under the DFB/DFL framework calendar that set matchday blocks, a winter break and relegation windows.
- Broadcasters now share coverage: Sky remains the main paid live carrier for the Bundesliga, DAZN holds the Saturday conference, and RTL and Sat.1 have expanded free-to-air windows for selected matches.
- MagentaSport will stream all 380 matches of the 3. Liga live while ARD and its regional third channels will show 68 3. Liga games free on television.
- Handball rights have been split too: SC Magdeburg enters the HBL season as defending champion and weekly HBL matches are available free on Joyn and WELT.de with Dyn offering full pay access for all games.
- For fans the result is wider free access for some flagship matches but continued fragmentation overall, meaning viewers must combine free streams, public broadcasts and subscriptions to follow all competitions.
