German Supermarket Loyalty Apps Offer Minimal Discounts, Study Finds

Despite widespread adoption, these apps rely on personal data collection for marginal rewards.

  • A Smhaggle investigation of over 1.26 million receipts finds Kaufland Card users saved an average of 2.29% on grocery and drugstore purchases in Q1 2025.
  • Loyalty programs at dm, Lidl, Edeka, Rossmann, Rewe and Penny offered savings ranging from 1.68% down to 0.75% over the same period.
  • The multi-partner Payback scheme, which includes Edeka, Netto and dm, delivered average savings of 1.38%.
