Overview

  • Preliminary Statistisches Bundesamt data show strawberry output at 75,500 tonnes in 2025, the smallest harvest since 1995.
  • Asparagus yields are estimated at 98,900 tonnes, down nine percent from last year and the lowest since 2010.
  • Growers reduced field cultivation to 8,100 hectares for strawberries and 18,600 hectares for asparagus in response to rising production costs.
  • The government refused a seasonal-wage exemption; a spring drought added to asparagus losses.
  • The Deutscher Bauernverband warns sustained uncompetitiveness may drive production abroad and heighten import reliance.
