German Sport Clubs Achieve Record Membership

More than 28 million Germans are now members of sport clubs, marking a historic high post-pandemic.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) reports a total of 28,764,951 memberships as of January 1, 2024.
This represents an increase of 890,000 memberships, or 3.2%, compared to the previous year.
The most significant growth was seen among children aged 0-14, with a 9.32% increase, and seniors over 60, with a 4.92% rise.
Despite the membership boom, clubs face challenges including a shortage of volunteers, trainers, and outdated facilities.
The DOSB emphasizes the need for political support to enhance volunteerism and improve sports infrastructure.
