German Skier Killed in South Tyrol Avalanche During Descent

The fatal avalanche occurred at approximately 2:00 PM local time on Grauner Berg in the Ahrntal region of South Tyrol, Italy.
The victim, a 59-year-old skier from Bavaria, was descending from the 2,556-meter summit when the avalanche struck.
Rescue teams, alerted by two witnesses, arrived within 20 minutes and located the victim using a locator device, but resuscitation efforts failed.
The victim was buried under 1.5 meters of snow; his German companion, also from the Erlangen region, was unharmed.
Authorities have concluded that the avalanche was likely triggered by the victim himself, and the case is now being documented.
