German Ski Federation Creates Laura-Dahlmeier Prize to Honor Late Biathlon Champion

The award will recognize an outstanding junior across all DSV disciplines starting next year.

Overview

  • DSV board member Stefan Schwarzbach announced the initiative, saying the federation sought a fitting way to commemorate Laura Dahlmeier.
  • The prize will be awarded annually from next year to a standout youth athlete within the federation.
  • It is explicitly open to all skiing disciplines, not limited to biathlon.
  • Dahlmeier's parents were consulted in advance and support the creation of the prize.
  • Dahlmeier, a two-time Olympic champion and seven-time world champion, died on July 28 in a climbing accident on Laila Peak and later worked as a TV expert after retiring.
