• On June 2, a large alligator broke through the fence of Zeus’s Wesley Chapel backyard, seized him through the doggy door and dragged him into a nearby pond before releasing him.
• Susan Alkhatib and her family waded into the water to pull Zeus to safety and immediately transported him to an emergency veterinary hospital.
• Veterinarians realigned and wired Zeus’s displaced jaw after it fractured under the alligator’s grip and treated multiple puncture wounds to his neck.
• Zeus remains on a liquid diet administered by syringe and is expected to undergo another surgery in about eight weeks to assess his jaw healing.
• A GoFundMe page has garnered over $6,800 toward a $10,000 target for veterinary expenses, and Florida Fish and Wildlife trappers are still searching for the attacking alligator.
