Overview

  • Wingert Foods GmbH launched the recall on June 24 after finding elevated pyrrolizidinalkaloid levels in the marjoram spice used in its frozen meals
  • The action covers specific batch numbers and expiry dates for Rostbratwürstchen dishes under the Wingert Foods, Südwind, ja!, gustoria and K-Classic brands
  • Affected products were sold at Rewe, Kaufland and Penny outlets across Germany and only the listed charges with corresponding minimum‐shelf-life dates are involved
  • Pyrrolizidinalkaloids are natural plant compounds that can contaminate herbs during harvesting and pose risks of liver damage and possible carcinogenic effects
  • Consumers with the specified frozen meals can return them to the point of purchase for a full refund without presenting a receipt
