Overview

• The 277 million total represents an 11% increase from 2023 and a 6% rise over 2019 pre-pandemic levels.
• Private journeys accounted for roughly 240 million trips, averaging more than three overnight stays per person.
• Domestic travel made up 163 million trips while foreign visits grew 12% year-on-year and 15% above 2019, led by Italy, Austria, Spain, France and the Netherlands.
• Business trips climbed to 37 million in 2024 but stayed about 10% under the volume recorded in 2019.
• Travel by car dominated at 58%, followed by train at 19% and air travel at 17%, and roughly one fifth of respondents took no trips at all.
