German Police Expose Severe Cross-Border Trucking Violations in A67 and A9 Stops

Tachograph checks exposed marathon driving, prompting five-figure penalties.

Overview

  • On the A67 near Pfungstadt, officers found a 37-year-old driver had covered roughly 1,500 kilometers from Spain to Hesse in nearly 19 hours with only 1 hour 18 minutes of rest.
  • Police said the A67 driver's records showed more than 130 prior violations of driving and rest-time rules, leading to calculated fines exceeding €20,000 for him and triple that amount for his employer.
  • Inspectors also identified technical defects on the truck in the A67 case, according to the Polizeipräsidium Darmstadt.
  • In a separate A9 stop by the Hofer Verkehrspolizei, a 45-year-old Spanish-registered rig was clocked at 30 to nearly 50 km/h over the limit, alongside breaches of driving and rest times.
  • The A9 driver was assessed a four-figure fine and paid a €1,500 security deposit on site, and officers filed a complaint against the Spanish carrier for follow-up by the Bundesamt für Logistik und Mobilität.
