German Optimism Falls Sharply in Ipsos Global Trends 2025

An Ipsos Global Trends 2025 survey finds sharply lower confidence in the near future across Germany, reflecting widespread unease about rapid change.

Overview

  • Only 40% of people in Germany have positive expectations for their own and their family's next 12 months, down from 53% a year ago.
  • Just 22% are optimistic about Germany and 14% about the world, while the global average share of optimists fell to 59% after an eight-point drop.
  • 82% say the world is changing too quickly, a four-point increase from last year.
  • National pride is muted and uneven: 39% say they are very proud of Germany versus 49% who say the opposite, with higher pride among men (47%) and high earners (45%) than among women (31%) and low earners (30%).
  • Ipsos surveyed about 1,000 people in Germany online from May 23 to June 6, 2025, within a 43-country study of 33,083 respondents that it says is representative in Germany.
