Overview
- A coordinated effort by Verein Wir für Bio with more than 80 municipal operators began on 15 September for a four-week inspection period across roughly 40 communities.
- Private household biowaste bins found with excessive foreign matter are left unemptied with warning tags and, if not corrected, later disposed of as residual waste for about €40.
- Checks apply the May 2025 Bioabfallverordnung thresholds of no more than 1% plastic and no more than 3% total contaminants by weight.
- Participating areas include parts of Niedersachsen, Hessen and NRW, including Göttingen, Main‑Kinzig and Wetterau as well as the districts of Gütersloh, Paderborn and Warendorf.
- Crews use visual inspections and, in some localities, vehicle‑mounted sensors or cameras to detect and document violations, and so‑called compostable plastic bags are treated as contaminants.
