  • A 35-year-old man held his 4-year-old daughter hostage in an 18-hour standoff at Hamburg airport, driving onto the tarmac, firing shots, and hurling 'Molotov cocktails'.
  • The incident began as a custody dispute. The man's wife had previously reported their child missing to the police.
  • The standoff, which triggered a complete shut down of the airport, impacted approximately 34,500 passengers due to the cancellation of 286 flights. Operations are preparing to resume as soon as possible.
  • The suspect was arrested without resistance after stepping out of the car with his daughter, who appeared to be unharmed. He initially demanded to be flown to Turkey with his daughter.
  • This is the second time in recent months that unauthorized individuals have disrupted operations at the Hamburg airport. Previously, eight climate activists glued themselves to the ground on the airfield, causing numerous flights to be cancelled.
