German Leaders Advocate for Yazidi Refugee Protection

Schleswig-Holstein's Integration Minister Aminata Touré and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck are advocating for the intake of Yazidis who have faced persecution by ISIS.
Touré has requested support from the Federal Interior Minister for a state-level intake order for Yazidis currently residing in Schleswig-Holstein.
The proposal includes a temporary halt on deportations for Yazidis, contingent on federal approval.
The initiative is supported by a coalition in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament, which is reviewing the proposal.
Previous programs in German states have provided refuge to over 1,000 Yazidis, recognizing the severe threats they face in Iraq.
