German Job Insecurity Hits Highest Level Since 2009, EY Survey Finds

The poll highlights outsized concern among younger and low‑income workers even as most respondents say their positions feel safe.

Overview

  • The share of people rating their job as insecure rose by 3 percentage points from 2024 and 5 points from 2023 in EY’s representative November 2025 survey of about 1,000 adults.
  • Despite the shift, 84% still consider their job secure, including 45% who describe it as very secure.
  • Anxiety is concentrated among younger workers, with 21% of under‑35s worried compared with 10% of those over 55.
  • Income gaps are stark: 36% of people earning under €25,000 report job worries versus 8% among those earning over €70,000.
  • Only 17% expect to have more money this year while 26% anticipate a deterioration, and EY’s Henrik Ahlers cites widespread skepticism and delayed big‑ticket purchases.
