Overview

• A nationwide ACE survey of 132 rest stops between April and June found 7,664 trucks vying for 5,088 spaces.
• Truck parking occupancy averaged 151 percent and reached 438 percent at Brönninghausen near Bielefeld.
• Seventy-six percent of rest areas had lorries blocking entrances, exits or hard shoulders, raising safety risks.
• The shortage compromises drivers’ mandated rest periods and has led to parking in unsuitable locations.
• ACE is calling on the federal government and Autobahn authority to add tens of thousands of spaces and expand digital signage of availability.
