Overview

  • Average national pump prices in May were €1.68 per liter for Super E10 and €1.56 for Diesel.
  • These rates are around 30 cents per liter below the peaks seen during the Ukraine war but remain well above pre-pandemic levels.
  • ADAC fuels expert Christian Laberer says 2025 is poised to become the fourth priciest year for German motorists on record.
  • Taxes, duties and CO₂ levies contribute roughly €1.05 of each liter of Super E10 and €0.86 of Diesel while oil accounts for about €0.36 and the remainder covers processing and distribution.
  • When adjusted for inflation since 2000, current prices rank in the middle of the past 25 years, though drivers feel relief compared with wartime extremes.
