German Federal Police Seize 300 Dangerous Items in Nationwide Station Checks

The coordinated weekend sweep targeted habitual station users rather than ordinary travelers.

Overview

  • About 1,900 federal officers conducted checks at 41 train stations from Friday evening to Sunday morning, verifying the identities of more than 11,600 people.
  • Authorities reported roughly 300 seized items, including numerous knives and pepper sprays, and opened about 140 weapons-law cases and around 40 violent-crime investigations.
  • In Düsseldorf, officers found a man with severe neck injuries later linked to an attack with a nail scissor, and a 25-year-old suspect was arrested.
  • Focused night controls at Munich’s main station led to 461 people checked, 699 searches, two arrests on existing warrants, three detentions, and a weapons-law complaint over a blank-firing pistol with 216 rounds plus other items.
  • In Bremen, Hamburg, and Hannover, more than 2,000 people were checked by roughly 550 officers, yielding 22 knives, two blank-firing weapons, several pepper sprays and batons, and seven arrests on warrants.
