Overview

  • The Bundesgerichtshof’s 6th Criminal Senate in Leipzig dismissed the defendants’ appeals (Case No. 6 StR 164/25), rendering their convictions final.
  • Last September the Potsdam District Court convicted the victim’s ex-partner and his school friend of murder and imposed life terms with a finding of particular severity of guilt for the ex-partner.
  • Under German law life sentences typically allow parole consideration after 15 years but the special severity finding bars early release for the ex-partner.
  • In May 2023 the teacher’s car was rammed off the A9 near Brück, and she was shot dead on the emergency lane.
  • Judges concluded that the ex-partner planned the murder during a custody dispute over their son, and his friend carried out the shooting.
