German Factory Orders Jump 5.6% in November on Major Defense and Metal Contracts

Most of the surge reflects a few large deals, leaving core demand only slightly higher.

Overview

  • Orders excluding large contracts rose 0.7% month over month, underscoring modest underlying demand.
  • Metal products orders surged 25.3% and the ‘other vehicle’ category, including military vehicles, climbed 12.3%.
  • Domestic orders increased 6.5% while eurozone demand rose 8.2% and non-euro foreign orders 2.9%.
  • Real manufacturing turnover advanced 2.7% on the month, and overall orders were up 4.0% in the Sep–Nov period versus the prior three months.
  • Economists cite defense procurement and planned public spending as supports for 2026, though analysts warn the spike may be volatile and dependent on swift budget implementation.
