The German Defense Ministry announced it will stop posting proactively on X, citing challenges in maintaining constructive discourse on the platform.
Accounts for the ministry, the Bundeswehr, and senior military officials will also cease activity on X for the foreseeable future.
As an alternative, the ministry will use a WhatsApp channel to share updates, decisions, and announcements with the public.
The decision comes after Elon Musk, owner of X, made controversial statements about German leaders and expressed political endorsements, fueling debates about the platform's role in spreading disinformation.
The German government as a whole has not yet decided to withdraw from X, with many official accounts, including those of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, still active.
