German Customs Sweep Flags Suspected Violations in Security Sector

  • Germany’s customs enforcement unit conducted a nationwide inspection of private security firms focused on wage compliance, social insurance, illegal employment and unauthorized worker leasing.
  • In northern, eastern and central Hesse, 105 officers from the Giessen main customs office checked 44 businesses and questioned 163 workers.
  • Initial checks in Hesse produced 19 leads on possible breaches such as reporting violations, underpayment of the sectoral minimum wage or benefits fraud.
  • In Kassel city and district, officers inspected five firms and interviewed 53 people, with one company flagged for an irregularity.
  • In the Augsburg region, officers interviewed 60 people and audited 11 employers, identified 28 matters for deeper review and opened four on-the-spot fine proceedings over ID document obligations.
