German Customs Seize 13,000 Bars of Smuggled Dubai Chocolate at Border
The operation at the German-Czech border uncovered undeclared goods, including counterfeit items and unregulated pharmaceutical products.
- Customs officers at the German-Czech border in Bahretal confiscated nearly 13,000 bars of Dubai chocolate during a routine inspection.
- The seized items also included approximately 400 counterfeit goods, such as clothing, watches, and shoes, as well as over 650 packages of honey, creams, and pastes containing unregulated pharmaceutical substances.
- The driver, a 51-year-old Swedish man, claimed the goods were loaded in Bulgaria, but documents found in his cabin indicated they were sourced from Turkey.
- Authorities initiated a tax evasion investigation as the driver failed to declare the goods and pay the required import duties, which for the chocolate alone amounted to nearly €10,000.
- Additional legal proceedings were launched for violations of pharmaceutical and trademark laws due to the nature of the confiscated items.
