German Courts Hand Down IS Verdicts as Top Court Upholds Duisburg Plot Conviction

The rulings underscore Germany's drive to prosecute Islamic State ties, with two verdicts still open to appeal.

Wegen ihrer Arbeit für den IS in Syrien sind zwei Syrer in Stuttgart zu Haftstrafen von je sechs Jahren verurteilt worden. Von weiteren Vorwürfen etwa der Misshandlung sprach das Oberlandesgericht sie frei.

  • Germany’s Federal Court of Justice upheld the Duisburg court’s eight-year sentence for a 29-year-old who planned in 2023 to drive a truck into a pro-Israel demonstration, making the verdict final.
  • The Stuttgart and Düsseldorf decisions are not yet final and can still be challenged before the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe.
