Overview

  • SAP, Deutsche Telekom, Ionos, Schwarz Gruppe and Siemens have formed a consortium to bid for one of five EU-backed AI Gigafactories.
  • Participants plan to finalize this week the project’s concept, location within Germany and lead operator.
  • The InvestAI initiative includes a €20 billion core fund inside a broader €200 billion investment drive to build AI data centers across Europe.
  • Each facility is estimated to require €3–5 billion in investment under a public-private partnership structure with state contributions of up to 35 percent.
  • Expressions of interest are due by June 20 and Germany’s coalition agreement guarantees at least one Gigafactory will be built on national soil.
