German Company to Launch Rockets from UK's First Licensed Spaceport

Rocket Factory Augsburg plans monthly launches from SaxaVord Spaceport on Unst, with the first launch expected this summer.

Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA), a German company, plans to launch rockets from the SaxaVord Spaceport on the UK's northernmost island of Unst, with the first launch expected this summer.
The SaxaVord Spaceport was granted the UK's first vertical launch spaceport license in December 2023, allowing for up to 30 launches per year.
The RFA One launcher, a 30m-tall three-stage rocket, is capable of delivering a 1,300kg payload to a sun-synchronous orbit around Earth.
RFA aims to eventually reuse the lower stage of its rockets, similar to Elon Musk's SpaceX, to generate savings.
The local population of Unst, around 600 people, are reportedly supportive of the project, recognizing the opportunity it presents.
