German Cities Publish January 2026 Christmas Tree Disposal Schedules

Cities urge undecorated curbside set-outs by early morning with drop-off options guiding trees to composting or biomass use.

Overview

  • Berlin’s BSR will collect discarded trees citywide from 10–24 January 2026, offering two pickup dates per district.
  • Düsseldorf’s Awista runs curbside collections 8–19 January, starting in the city center and finishing in the south.
  • Gelsenkirchen’s Gelsendienste will pick up district by district 7–14 January, with trees to be out by 6 a.m. on each date.
  • Munich’s AWM provides round-the-clock drop-off at temporary sites and 11 recycling yards from 7 January to 4 February, plus a paid bulk pickup for property managers from 20 January to 28 February.
  • Services require trees fully undecorated and not in plastic, accept only pieces up to about two meters, offer free drop-off up to roughly one cubic meter, and send material for composting or biomass power.
