German Cinema Attendance Falls 3% in First Half of 2025 as Higher Prices Prop Up Revenue

A lack of big titles is pushing expectations toward a stronger second half.

Overview

  • The FFA logged about 40.6 million admissions in January–June, around 1.3 million fewer year over year (−3%).
  • Average ticket prices rose to €9.92 (+3.1%), leaving box-office revenue roughly unchanged at €403.4 million.
  • Following a second‑quarter bump from Ein Minecraft Film and Lilo & Stitch, FFA chief Peter Dinges still called the half‑year weak due to too few major draws.
  • Family films led audience interest, with Ein Minecraft Film (~3.47 million tickets) and Lilo & Stitch (~2.66 million) topping the charts.
  • Exhibitors are looking to upcoming titles such as Das Kanu des Manitu, Die Schule der magischen Tiere 4 and Avatar: Fire and Ash to lift attendance in the second half.
