German Butter Prices Hit Two-Year Low as Aldi and Lidl Cut to €1.39

The cuts reflect a larger autumn supply of higher-fat milk.

Overview

  • Aldi reduced several Milsani butter lines by €0.10 from October 29, setting the 250 g Deutsche Markenbutter at €1.39 permanently, with Streichfein variants at €1.29 and Süßrahmbutter at €1.39 at Aldi Süd.
  • Lidl matched the move, pricing its 250 g Milbona Deutsche Markenbutter at €1.39 nationwide and lowering additional butter, mixed spreads and a vegan alternative.
  • Norma announced further reductions, listing Landfein Deutsche Markenbutter and Süßrahmbutter at €1.39 and “Die Streichbare” variants at €1.29.
  • A dpa survey found many major chains now list own-brand 250 g butter at €1.39, the lowest level in more than two years, after two reductions in September.
  • Market experts cite higher milk output in Germany and the EU and a rise in raw milk fat content, while industry voices warn falling shelf prices are translating into lower milk payouts to farmers.
