German Bicycle Sales Decline in 2024, E-Bike Prices Drop

The bicycle industry faces challenges from overproduction, reduced demand, and longer product lifespans, despite high E-Bike adoption.

  • Germany's bicycle sales and production fell in 2024, with total sales dropping 2.5% compared to 2023 and revenue decreasing by 10.3% to €6.33 billion.
  • E-Bike sales outpaced traditional bicycles for the second consecutive year, with 2.05 million E-Bikes sold versus 1.8 million traditional bikes.
  • Average E-Bike prices fell by €300 to €2,650, while non-motorized bicycles saw a slight price increase to €500 on average.
  • Overproduction during the pandemic and the longer lifespan of E-Bikes have led to excessive inventory, with 15.7 million E-Bikes now in circulation in Germany.
  • Despite challenges, the industry remains optimistic about future growth, with the total bicycle count in Germany reaching 88.7 million, exceeding the population of 83.6 million.
