German Banks Push Short‑Term Tagesgeld Rates Higher

The ECB rate rise is triggering limited-time offers that differ sharply in who qualifies, how long the headline rate lasts, and what savers will earn once promotions end.

Overview

  • Multiple lenders on Tuesday rolled out or hiked short-term Tagesgeld promotions after the ECB raised its deposit rate, with banks offering headline rates that are guaranteed for three to six months.
  • VW Bank now pays 3.5% p.a. for six months to new customers while keeping existing customers at about 1% variable interest.
  • Postbank is offering 3.2% p.a. for six months for qualifying 'new money' deposits of at least €2,500 that must be booked by late October and will earn the rate from 1 November to 30 April 2027.
  • grenke Bank has a 3.0% p.a. Neukunden action for three months and has raised its ongoing base rate for existing customers to 2.0% p.a.
  • Top short-term headline rates remain with specialist providers such as Revolut (4.25% for four months) and Renault Bank (4.10% for four months), so savers should check eligibility rules, minimums, exclusions and post-promo rates and keep deposits within the €100,000 statutory insurance limit or other protection schemes.
