German Auto Industry Faces 4.7% Revenue Decline in First Half of 2024

Despite the downturn, the automotive sector remains Germany's largest industrial revenue contributor, driven largely by exports.

Germany's auto industry revenue fell to €269.5 billion in the first half of 2024, down from €282.6 billion in the same period of 2023.
The automotive sector still accounts for 25.2% of the total industrial revenue in Germany, maintaining its position as the leading industry.
Exports constitute 70% of the industry's revenue, with approximately 1.7 million cars exported in the first half of 2024.
Employment in the auto sector decreased by 0.8%, with 773,000 people employed by mid-2024, continuing a downward trend since 2019.
Revenue declines were observed across all segments, with the largest drop of 11.6% in car bodies, trailers, and semi-trailers.
