German Arms Exports Near Record High Amid Ukraine Conflict

Germany's arms exports in 2024 are set to surpass last year's record, driven largely by shipments to Ukraine.

From January to mid-October 2024, Germany approved 4,163 arms export licenses valued at €10.9 billion.
Only €1.3 billion more is needed to break the previous record of €12.2 billion set in 2023.
Two-thirds of this year's export value, totaling €7.2 billion, consists of war weapons.
The surge in exports is primarily attributed to military support for Ukraine against Russia.
Despite initial plans to restrict arms exports, the German government shifted its policy following the Ukraine invasion.
