German Airports Handle Record Summer Traffic Without Major Delays

Overview

  • Frankfurt Airport handled over 400,000 passengers during the first weekend of Hessian summer holidays and projects up to nine million travelers by mid-August.
  • Düsseldorf Airport expects a 3 percent increase to around 3.4 million passengers from July 11 to August 26 after recording more than 220,000 travelers on its first holiday weekend.
  • Cologne/Bonn Airport foresees 1.76 million passengers over the next six and a half weeks with the peak set for the fourth holiday weekend in early August.
  • Fraport recommends arrivals two hours before carry-on flights and 2.5 hours before checked-baggage departures and offers its FRA SmartWay service for free security timeslot bookings.
  • Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn airports have rolled out free security booking windows, self-service baggage drops, online check-in and e-gates to expedite passenger flows.
