Overview
- Deputies were dispatched around 9:50 a.m. to a Tarvin Road residence in Rock Spring and found a 2-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head.
- The child survived surgery at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital in Chattanooga and remains in critical condition, Sheriff Steve Wilson said.
- According to the sheriff, the father was dressing an infant in another room when he heard a pop and discovered the wounded toddler.
- Investigators say the father had returned late on Christmas Eve and placed his 9mm handgun on a nightstand beside the bed.
- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting and Walker County DFCS is involved; the infant has been placed with relatives and no charges have been filed.
