Georgia Power Releases Draft RFP for 500 MW of Battery Storage

The move advances a regulator-approved plan to expand storage to support renewable integration.

Overview

  • The draft solicitation seeks 500 MW of battery capacity with at least two hours of discharge, offered as standalone systems or paired with renewable resources.
  • Georgia Power targets in-service dates no earlier than 2028 with preference for projects online by November 28, 2031, and it anticipates RFP document approval in December 2025.
  • Proposals are due in January 2026 with contract execution expected about a year later, and a bidders conference is scheduled for September 29 under the independent evaluator Ascend Analytics.
  • Bids must be submitted through Ascend’s Power Procurement platform, with no submissions or inquiries accepted by phone, email or postal mail.
  • Eligible projects must interconnect to the Southern Company transmission system, may not be sited on Georgia Power property unless company-owned, and, if paired with renewables, must share the same point of interconnection.
