Overview
- Authorities named the victims as Marcus Ragland, 34, and Ashley Brooke Hawkins, 31, both of Rome, Georgia.
- Two side-by-side vehicles collided on Aug. 30 at Indian Mountain ATV Park; a RZR carrying nine people overturned, traveled about 150 feet and struck a tree.
- Ragland, the driver, was ejected and died at the scene, and Hawkins died at a Birmingham hospital; the seven injured children are ages 1 to 12, with some later discharged.
- Officials said none of the nine occupants in the overturned RZR were using restraints; the two people in the other ATV were uninjured and tried to render aid.
- Four helicopters flew Hawkins and three children to Birmingham trauma centers while four other children were taken to a Rome, Georgia hospital, and the sheriff’s office continues to lead the probe in the remote crash area.
