Overview

  • A Fulton County jury granted Jessica Ross and Treveon Taylor Sr. $2 million in compensatory damages plus $250,000 in punitive damages after Dr. Jackson Gates posted graphic autopsy videos of their newborn without permission.
  • Dr. Gates uploaded multiple Instagram videos showing detailed footage of the infant’s decapitated head and body despite a cease-and-desist letter from the parents.
  • The Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled in February 2024 that the baby’s death was a homicide caused by excessive force during a complicated shoulder dystocia delivery.
  • Ross and Taylor hired Gates in July 2023 for a private postmortem exam and sued him in September 2023 for invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and fraud.
  • The parents continue to pursue separate wrongful death litigation against Southern Regional Medical Center and obstetrician Dr. Tracey St. Julian over alleged delivery errors.
