The incident occurred early Thursday morning on Interstate 85 in Chambers County, Alabama.
Minix, who was also a K-9 officer, is survived by a wife and three daughters.
The suspect involved in the chase has been taken into custody.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation into the incident, and the officer who struck Minix has been put on administrative leave.
