Georgia Deputy Killed in Ambush During Domestic Dispute Call

Deputy Brandon Cunningham, 30, was fatally shot while responding to a domestic violence incident in Hiram, marking the first line-of-duty death for the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Cunningham and another deputy were met with gunfire upon arrival at the scene.
The suspect, James Samuel Atkins, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A female victim, Atkins' wife, was also shot and is in stable condition at an Atlanta hospital.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
Cunningham, a father of two, had been with the sheriff's office since 2020.
