Trailing by 17 points at halftime, the Bulldogs mounted a second-half comeback led by Tyrin Lawrence, who scored 13 of his 14 points after the break.
RJ Godfrey also contributed 14 points and six rebounds, while Asa Newell, Dakota Leffew, Silas Demary Jr., and De'Shayne Montgomery all scored in double figures.
South Carolina State's Jayden Johnson led his team with 16 points, including two key three-pointers to close the first half, but they fell to 6-9 on the season.
Georgia now prepares to open Southeastern Conference play against No. 16 Mississippi, while South Carolina State begins Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play against Morgan State.
