Overview

  • Georgia BRIGHT delivered 400 fully prepaid rooftop solar systems to low-income homes on August 4 and will hold a drawing for another 400 installations in September 2025.
  • The $156 million EPA Solar for All grant under the Inflation Reduction Act funds over 800 no-cost solar installations statewide through fully prepaid leases without upfront, maintenance, or monthly fees.
  • Homeowners are guaranteed at least a 50% reduction in their electricity bills under lease terms that include compensation if savings fall short and transfer system ownership at the lease’s end.
  • Eligible participants earn no more than 80% of their county’s median income or 200% of the federal poverty level, must be current on mortgage and property taxes, and have 300–500 square feet of suitable sunlight exposure.
  • The program’s long-term viability faces uncertainty from the Trump administration’s reported effort to claw back Solar for All funds and post-2027 restrictions on tax credits for foreign-sourced solar components.
