- George Mira died Tuesday at age 83, the University of Miami announced.
- Mira was a two-time All-American who led the nation in total offense in 1963, with his No. 10 retired and his name in the school’s Ring of Honor.
- He was drafted 15th overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 1964 and played in the NFL through 1971 with the 49ers, Eagles, Colts and Dolphins.
- As a 49ers rookie he threw a 79-yard touchdown to Dave Parks, a franchise rookie record, and later backed up Bob Griese in Miami.
- He extended his career in the CFL and the World Football League, finished as a player-coach with the Toronto Argonauts, and earned induction into the University of Miami and Florida sports halls of fame.
