Overview
- Sprüth Magers and Skarstedt announced on November 10 that they will jointly represent George Condo, confirming his departure from Hauser & Wirth.
- Condo began working with Monika Sprüth in 1984 and was represented by Skarstedt from 2004 to 2019 before joining Hauser & Wirth in late 2019.
- Monika Sprüth lauded her decades-long relationship with the artist, while Hauser & Wirth founder Iwan Wirth praised their six years together in statements to ARTnews.
- Earlier this year, Condo staged a two-venue New York presentation split between Hauser & Wirth’s SoHo space and Sprüth Magers’s Upper East Side gallery, with a separate “Pastels” selection of 20 works on paper priced at $600,000 to $1.5 million.
- The move comes as a Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris retrospective runs through February 2026 and follows strong market results, including a $6.8 million auction record and $39.2 million in 2024 auction sales, alongside recent seven-figure fair transactions.
