Geodude-Themed Park Opens in Morioka Central Park

The opening advances a 2019 Pokémon–Iwate partnership focused on tourism promotion to support recovery from the 2011 earthquake.

Overview

  • The new site in Morioka Central Park features Pokémon Company–donated play gear such as a Geodude seesaw, a Poké Ball climbing play, and a Pikachu bench.
  • A signature climbing structure about 6 meters tall and 10 meters wide includes Geodude with fellow rock-type Pokémon like Onix, Rockruff, and Lycanroc.
  • Local leaders joined a ribbon-cutting as Morioka Mayor Shigeru Uchidate welcomed visitors, with Governor Takuya Tasso in attendance.
  • Nursery children tried the equipment right after the ceremony, chasing one another around the play area and cheering as they explored the pieces.
  • This is the third Geodude-themed park in Iwate under Pokémon’s Local Acts program, which tailors designs to place with Morioka’s green frame evoking Mount Iwate and blue ropes nodding to the Kitakami and Nakatsu rivers.
