Genesee County Sheriff's Sergeant Killed in Duty at Casino

Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello died after a confrontation involving a metal chain; suspects plead not guilty.

Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, a 32-year veteran of the Genesee County Sheriff's Office, was killed in the line of duty at Batavia Downs Gaming & Hotel.
Michael J. Elmore and Lyndsey Jean Wilcox were arrested and charged in connection with Sanfratello's death, with Elmore facing aggravated manslaughter among other charges.
The altercation began after Sanfratello responded to a disturbance at the casino's bar, leading to a physical confrontation where Elmore used a metal chain as a weapon.
Authorities are seeking additional video evidence from the public to aid in the ongoing investigation of the incident.
Both suspects have pleaded not guilty, with Elmore's trial set to begin on April 9 and Wilcox's on April 23.
