Overview

• On August 12, the Conselleria asked the Oliva city council to close four beaches after August 11 samples showed fecal bacteria at more than twice the legal limit.
• Lifeguard and rescue teams placed red flags at Terranova, Pau-Pi, Aigua Blanca and Aigua Morta to prevent swimming on health grounds.
• All four beaches carry Blue Flag certification awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education.
• The Conselleria and Oliva authorities have ordered follow up analyses and source-tracing to determine when bathing can resume.
• Port Saplaya beach in Alboraya remains closed under a separate bathing prohibition more than a week after earlier contamination alerts.
